  • Music, Noise, and Soundscape: Gayle Young and Ryan Bruce, Brock University (2021)

    Discussions and demonstrations of Young’s music and instruments, fundamentals of tuning and acoustics, and improvisations by Bruce and Young that took place during a virtual residency.

  • Orion Lecture Series in Fine Arts, University of Victoria, BC, Canada (2021)

    Young performed her music, presented workshops in tuning, and discussed instrument design and construction. Her concert was followed by master classes with composition students.

  • Centro Mexicano para la Música y las Artes Sonoras, Morella, Mexico (2019)

    During Young’s composition residency with CMMAS she completed “Citrina Lichen”, and “Keels”, performing a solo concert of these and other works with her instrument, the Allium.

  • 2 Rooms Contemporary Arts Projects, Duntara, Newfoundland, Canada (2016)

    Young’s sound installation, later featured in the inaugural Bonavista Biennale, presents underwater ocean sounds, shaped and filtered by acoustic elements of the exhibition site.

  • Royal Conservatoire, The Hague, Den Haag, the Netherlands (2017)

    Young presented composition workshops and a lecture/demonstration, supervising rehearsals for a concert of her works performed by students.

  • Music Matters XV: Building an Interdisciplinary Life in the Sonic Arts Department of Arts, Culture & Media University of Groningen, the Netherlands (2017)

    Young gave a lecture demonstrating recordings made through tuned resonators and led a day-long soundscape exploration on an island in the North Sea.

  • Civitella Raneri Foundation Perugia, Italy (2014)

    Young composed “As Trees Grow” for solo piano during this residency, basing the music on texts in which she describes food-bearing trees growing on the grounds around Civitella. Civitella Ranieri Foundation
